It’s Cup day here in Melbourne, always one of the biggest dates on the calendar. I won’t be going this year, just as I didn’t last year. Instead I might have a quiet flutter (I like Ethiopia as a roughie, ahead, hopefully, of a bunch of contenders: Dunaden and Americain obviously, Red Cadeaux, and Galileo’s Choice as the lightweight chance), I’ll turn on the teev in time to catch the race, but that’s about it.
Last year, even though I watched it from home, I partied well. I cracked a bottle of bubbles, fired up the barbie, and feasted like no-one in the Emirates stand. For some reason I remember the day very well. I won’t be doing that this year. There’s work to do, it’s a year on, times have changed. What I’m really looking forward to is the Oz Lotto draw tonight. I have a good feeling about it.
