I woke up this morning to find the sky thick with smoke, and in my nostrils the spicy smell of raw wood burned. It was eerie.
To the north-east of Melbourne there are raging some of the biggest bushfires in living memory, early in this season. It is tipped to be another scorcher today, and tomorrow too, so there looks little relief. And so the wind carries the smoke of those fires hundreds of kilometres to us here, the residents of Melbourne. Don’t forget.
